WCWYB: Curtis, the no-barriers business man, perpetual sports spectator and dad
wcwyb-curtis-the-no-barriers-business-man-perpetual-sports-spectator-and-dad
Curtis is a custom project. He's not the typical humdrum bottle you're likely to find on the warehouse floor. At first encounter, he's bound to make a joke about his self-proclaimed resemblance to a Squat Boston Round and he'll probably drop a dude reference somewhere within the first five minutes of conversation. But truth be told; Curtis' personality can't be enclosed within the confines of a container. Whether business or good times are on the agenda, he's a no-barriers kind of guy.

The man with melodic energy

Words alone won't do this particular CPS Sales Representative justice. Curtis is many things: comical, professional, warm, detail-oriented and a mean radio commercial impersonator. Yet, that's only a fraction of the essence of CPS Videos' Professor Crosgrove. Coming to know this man is an experience, an event that must be lived rather than solely discussed.

Music can often articulate what the mind is incapable of uttering. While Curtis may have been influenced by The Eagles and U2 in his younger days, my ears tune into a different station and blare a particular up-beat country tune at the thought of him.

Song: There's one in every crowd that brings the party in us out.
Me: That one is Curtis.
Song: Well everybody here knows his name, makes everybody else look sane.
Me: Yep, that's him too.
And last but not least, every morning is a testament to this saying as, it ain't a party till he walks in.

The Life of a Salesman

Cobalt blue is kind of cold and amber is warm and fuzzy. And I'm definitely warm and fuzzy.

You can learn a lot about a person based on their preference of container color and the reasoning behind the decision. Over time our conversation shifted from color preferences and personality traits and the everyday funny man became very polished and articulate when it came to talking business.

We get to meet these entrepreneurs that are really jazzed about their idea and we have the opportunity to help them take their product and make it look so cool and professional, even though they weren't this multimillion dollar company, they're a start-up, Curtis said, explaining how he thrives on interactions with new clients. We have the ability to make their product amazing, like it belongs on the shelf right next to the big guys.

As for his business style, Curtis likes to keep things out in the open. I take a barrier-free approach to business, he explained. A lot of the time when you're talking to a customer on the phone, people are so concerned about sounding like they know what they're doing that they're afraid to ask the question. And so it's my goal to help them feel very comfortable about what they're doing. Let's break through the barriers, let's communicate and let's find a solution.

Salespeople who are concerned about their customers taking comfort in ignorance are a rare breed to come by. If you're working with Curtis be prepared to go all in. No matter the size of the rapids, you're running the waves with no barriers!

I like to put myself in the position where I'm an extension of that company; almost as valuable to them as an employee itself. So when they come to us they can count on us to deliver in a very professional manner. Top quality products, competitive pricing and see that order through to fulfillment.

The Family Man

Curtis takes his work at CPS very seriously, but it's not the most important job he holds. When asked what he's most proud of he answered, Being a good dad. I love being a good dad. That's the challenge that I put most of my effort in.

He went on to explain how his life has changed since he first became a father, over 18 years ago. My life is all about my kids. You kind of evolve, you know? I have a lot of stuff that I used to like to do and that I will probably like to do after this window of opportunity closes [raising children]. But right now, with four children, I'm very busy in football and soccer and scouts and school.”

Just how busy is Curtis? I put his dedication to attending his family's sporting activities along with his mathematical skills to the test when asking the almighty question: How many sports games have you attended to support your children?

Oh man, that's a hard one to guess, he answers, laughing to himself. Earlier this year when I was at a rugby game in one of the worst rainstorms I've ever been in and I thought ˜What in the world am I doing here?' Yeah, I have no idea. Like I said, little league baseball, soccer, football, rugby “ a bunch.

So, no matter what a bunch adds up to, it's evident that Curtis thoroughly enjoys the time he spends with his family, watching them on the field and off.

The stuff that I enjoy doing consequently they enjoy doing. Me and my boys, we spend a lot of time in the outdoors. Golfing and different things, so much of what I enjoy doing they enjoy doing, except for fishing. They're not the biggest fans of fishing. But I figure I'll have plenty of time to fish when I'm an old man.

So, whether he's sitting in the pouring rain at a rugby match, breaking business barriers with Buzz Aldrin and the best of ˜em or day dreaming of spending a day at the lake in a fishing boat Curtis is the best of what CPS is all about.

Got a product idea? Give us a call. You may end up speaking with the friendliest dude this side of the Mississippi.
