Vaping: Controversy or Revolution
vaping-controversy-revolution
Smoking has been going out of fashion. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been tracking this downward trend for years. Since 1965, where a little over 42% of adults were active cigarette smokers, today less than 19% of the US population still smokes. But among this group is a trending switch to vaping (aka e-cigarettes).

The appeal of e-cigarettes is that vaping can aid some in quitting the addictive nature of nicotine. For others it eliminates the putrid smell given off by traditional cigarettes. The risk is that the long term health effects of vaping are fairly unknown. While voices of caution have been raised, these are precautionary. Creditable studies have thus far been inconclusive, and vaping has been clinically unproven as a means to help stop smoking.

Finding studies that are conclusive and unbiased are difficult and rare. What is understood is that vaping is not as harmful as smoking, but neither better than abstaining completely. For those looking to switch from cigarettes to vaping, it’s pretty clear which one is the lesser vice.

But that hasn’t stopped it from growing in popularity and surprisingly it’s the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association TVECA that has been pushing legislation to create packaging and formula standards for their industry. To add to this in April of 2014 the U.S. Congress received a report from the FDA regarding recommendations for laws regarding vaping products. However even the FDA admits that conclusive studies are in short supply and for now discussions about how to regulate e-liquid have been tabled, pending further evidence.

A lot of people are joining the e-liquid scene. When it comes to getting LDPE containers, child resistant caps, or appropriate product labels Container & Packaging Supply keeps stock for those who are looking to add their own offerings to this revolution in the smoking community. Regardless of what lies ahead, these kinds of packaging are sure to be a part of any future laws regarding e-liquid.
