Tin Product Testing Part 3: 4 oz. Tins
tin-product-testing-part-3-4-oz-tins
There are three different 4 oz. tins available at Container & Packaging Supply: the 4 oz. flat lid, the 4 oz. screw top lid, and the 4 oz. deep tin. I ran tests on the 4 oz. flat and the 4 oz. deep tins.

4 oz. Flat Tin

I started, once again, with the M&Ms ®. I got just over ½ a cup into it, and decided to count them. That took a while, but I finally counted 137 M&Ms ® that fit in it. I also got a generous ½ a cup of rice and 19 Kisses ® into this tin. I decided to simulate a more solid substance, so I shoved a stick of butter in it. Logically, a 4 oz. stick of butter would fit perfectly, and amazingly, it did! The height of this tin is two full Oreo ® cookies plus one cookie wafer.

4 oz. Deep Tin

This tin surprised me. Besides its height, its measurements are exactly the same as those of the 4 oz. flat tin! It holds 137 M&Ms ®, 19 Kisses ®, a generous ½ cup of rice, or one full stick of slightly softened butter. Its height is three full Oreo ® cookies plus one cookie wafer plus one filling.

4 oz. Screw Top Tin

I wasn’t able to measure this tin due to it being unavailable at my local warehouse. If you would like this 4 oz. tin, request a sample or contact a sales representative, and they will be able to get it delivered to you. I imagine (and hope!) that it is similar in size to the other 4 oz. tins.

After counting those M&Ms ® for the 4 oz. containers, I have decided that I am done with that method of measuring. Who will really count out that many plain M&Ms ®? If you decide that you need to know exactly how many M&Ms are in bigger containers, leave a comment, and I will (grudgingly) go back and count exactly how many will fit into those tins. I’ll probably have to go buy more because I’m sure that someone at my house will have eaten all of my supply of “measurement tools” by then.

Next up: 8 oz.!
