The Closure ABCs – Part 2

the-closure-abcs-part-2
I promised you our closure fun wasn't over just yet. Here's round two, a second look into the world of lids, caps and droppers. This countdown expose focuses on the uses of orifice reducers, sifter/spice caps, Yorker spouts, dropper tips and inverted dropper tips. Read on to be enthralled by mystic faculties of dispensing closures.

1. Orifice Reducer
Have you ever worked with a product that was hard to handle due to its dispensing style? Take cooking oil in the restaurant industry for instance. Only a quick splash of the product is needed for the recipe, but the container has a gaping wide opening. This sounds like a perfect case for an orifice reducer. The plastic disc with an edged lip can be inserted into the opening of a bottle to limit or reduce the size of its mouth. The orifice reducer must be paired with a compatible closure to seal and function properly.

2. Sifter/Spice Cap
Can you imagine using spices without the aid of a sifter or spice cap? I don't even like to think about that. Typically a hinged or twistable closure, the cap can be opened to reveal a tailor-made liner. This piece of plastic patterned with several dispensing holes allows for small particle products to be dispersed at a controlled pace. Making the practice of working with spices and powders of all kinds as easy and mess free as ever.

3. Yorker Spout
You know the iconic orange top on the Elmer's glue container? That's a Yorker spout. The closure has a cone-shaped dispensing area atop a threaded base. We carry these closures with pre-drilled tips, ready to dispense or closed tips, which need to be punctured or snipped to pass product. Yorker lids are also often used with products that require precise application.

4. Dropper Tip
A dropper tip closure can be recognized by its disc lid with a funnel shaped dropper on top. Our dropper tips are sold as part of a dispensing lid (L500) or as the tip alone (L517C). Singular tips will need to be paired with a compatible cap to create a desirable seal. Dropper tips come in two different variations. Controlled dropper tips allow users to allocate the product through maintainable drops. Uncontrolled dropper tips disperse the product in stream form. These droppers are perfect for dispensing eye drops, food coloring and much more.

5. Inverted Dropper Tip (Euro Spout Lid)
Inverted dropper tip closures are also known as Euro Spout lids. This dropper is commonly companioned by small glass bottles used to store essential oils or concentrated extracts . The dropper's form is characterized by a small pipette attached to a ribbed cap base. Each time the lid is removed the dropper is capable of dispensing a few drops.

You are now a closure master. If you were blindfolded you could probably identify the aforementioned closures by mere touch. And around certain groups of people, that's pretty impressive. Use the details you've learned through these closure countdowns to determine which dispensing option is right for your product.

Has perusing these articles uncovered a yearning within you to devour anything and everything packaging?
