Sunkist veers from traditional clear container to innovative pouch packaging
sunkist-veers-from-traditional-clear-container-to-innovative-pouch-packaging
Protein supplements are all the craze. Sure, they've been around for a few years but new brands keep popping up with various ways to eat, drink or otherwise absorb protein. Read on to discover which brand is joining the protein movement and revitalizing clear container packaging along the way.

Health Care Packaging featured the article, Sunkist's stand-up protein pouch delivers innovative dispensing, showcasing the revamped look of Sunkist's protein drink, from a clear container to a hot-fill capable dispensing pouch.

Say What?
I know what you're thinking, Sunkist makes a protein drink? Maybe they should have stuck with their classic clear container and orange soda. A carbonated, citrus flavored protein beverage doesn't exactly sound refreshing. Apparently the company had another recipe in mind and it must be tasty, as it's available in several flavors and clear container styles.

Sunkist Protein Products
Sunkist's Protein 24g, is available in orange (surprise!), grape and fruit punch flavors. It's packaged in a round family style (similar to a modern round) clear container. This particular style and design of clear container marks a milestone in the evolution of packaging. Like the protein pouches we will discuss later, this particular clear container is built to endure the heat of hot-filled products without any deforming consequences.

Images courtesy of Protica

Moving on, Protein Shots (available in 42g and 25g variations) are presented in a test tube-like clear container, offering the product in a better, smaller, faster, concentrated form for those who crave protein on the go. To put it simply, they're lean, mean and hot-filled too!

Last but not least, Protein 24g is also available in bulk (48 servings), ready to be dispensed from the innovative and intriguing dispensing pouch. According to the article, the pouch is made from a combination of polyester, foil and nylon, finished with a polyethylene (PE) heat seal and polypropylene (PP) fitment. The product is hot-filled into the pouch through the fitment at approximately 185 ° F. Thanks to this process and the hermetic seal that will result, a clear container or pouch of Sunkist's Protein 24g can sit in your pantry for up to two years without losing any taste or value.

What the pouch means for packaging
Sunkist isn't the only brand to jump into the protein craze. Special K is already on the shelves and I'd venture to guess that a few more will follow soon after. Whether the trend is here to stay or not, this protein pouch has left an impression on packaging.

A clear container used to be just a clear container, now it can be a hot-filled pouch, what's next? Before you know it we'll all be buying food packaged in foil pouches just like those futuristic cartoons and space movies told us we would. 2012 marks a new era of packaging. Whether you're a fan of futuristic trends or just want to package in a clear container, we can help.

As a consumer, are you a fan of pouch packaging or will you stick with a clear container forever? Post a comment.
