Sifter Product Testing Introduction

sifter-product-testing
I have decided to put my Container and Packaging Spy job on hiatus for a while. It seems that somebody over at Container & Packaging Supply figured out that I was trying to infiltrate the company. (Could it, perhaps, have been that my mission reports were published directly to the public blog?) So instead of spying, I'm going back to product testing. Bizarre testing methods, here I come! (Actually, these tests will be pretty straightforward. Sorry for the disappointment.)

Think about your spice cupboard (or drawer, as is my case). Imagine that you're preparing a fancy dish. It requires whole cloves, cardamom pods, cayenne pepper, and cinnamon sticks. You open your bottle of cloves to pour them into a measuring spoon. Too late, you discover that some genius put a sifter lid with itty-bitty holes in it on the bottle! The cloves will not pour! In your frustration, you put it to the side and reach for the cayenne pepper. The recipe calls for just a dash. You open it and gently shake the pepper into your simmering concoction. But instead of a delicate sprinkling of ground pepper, you dump the whole bottle into the pan! You give up and order pizza instead.

Sifter lids are great for spices, but it is extremely important that you choose the correct sifter for your product. Some spices, such as whole cloves and cardamom pods, will not fit through tiny holes and require larger sifters. Other spices, such as cayenne pepper, would probably work best in bottles fitted with small sifters. Some of the sifters require a separate lid, while others have single or double hinged lids connected to the sifter. There are sifters with between three and eleven holes, and also some with spoon slots.

In this series of product tests, I will examine the different types of sifter lids offered at Container & Packaging Supply. I will determine how effectively different products pour through various sizes of sifter holes. Then I will report back with my, hopefully enlightening, results. Stay tuned for the investigations of <del>Amber Boston's</del> Rachel's product tests!
