Plastic Poetry: Hail to HDPE

plastic-poetry-hail-hdpe
We’ve honored PET but our hearts are full of love for all plastics and thus we must also pay homage to our number two of the resin identification codes; HDPE. What can be said of High Density Polyethylene? Many may believe that it's hard to see though, but those nay-sayers just don’t appreciate its true nature. I see you clearly HDPE. Okay not literally because you are more translucent than truly transparent but I meant that symbolically.

Hail to HDPE

High-Density polyethylene
Thy name rhymes with…
Well not much really
But your properties are to be lauded
Acid has no effect on your structure
Volatile chemicals you often rebuff
And your impact resistance
Is pretty hot stuff
You're one of two plastics that can be fluorinated
And perfect for vapors that need to be barricaded
Others may mourn your translucent features
But your mysterious and cloudy nature
<span style=font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.75em;>Is still more transparent than paper
<span style=font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.75em;>And speaking of paper, you are far above
<span style=font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.75em;>One of the easiest to recycle
<span style=font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.75em;>You show nature some love
<span style=font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.75em;>And jump in that bin.

Translation for the Poetry-haters:

HDPE is highly resistant to most acids. It can easily resist impacts and abrasions. However HDPE can never really be clear or see-though. But it is one of the easiest plastics to recycle and has a wide variety of post-consumer uses. HDPE is marked with a 2.
