World's Largest Bottle Rocket Takes Flight
largest-bottle-rocket-takes-flight

UTAH”Launching a fifteen-ton PET bottle from the top of a Utah warehouse, space start up DIY Spacecrafts has partnered with packaging distributor Container and Packaging in attempts to set a new world record. It's about more than just setting records, explains DIY Spacecrafts' director of technology Jeff Bellatrix. What we are doing here is demonstrating to the world that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to build a rocket. Sometimes you just need bottles, a large crew, a warehouse, lots of funding, and a DIY spirit!

The previous record was held by a Florida man who launched his five-foot-tall bottle rocket from the back of a moving sedan on I-75. The rocket reached 3,000 feet in height. The man was arrested once parked, and his record-setting achievement was promptly recorded.

Container and Packaging's new record-holding rocket was launched on March 31st at 2:13 pm and accomplished a height of 7,000 feet before falling back to earth. The massive bottle landed in a neighboring trampoline supply warehouse, which was an intentional accident according to the DIY spacecraft team (not scientists).

Bellatrix went on to explained that this ambitious project was just the first of many. Going forward, the two companies plan to co-create a spacecraft landing pad out of bottle caps and packing tape, a glass jar submarine, and a steel tin parachute by the end of the year. Though Bellatrix and his team are optimistic about their new partnership, when we approached Container and Packaging with questions, their PR officer would only say, Please tell your readers to ˜not try any of this at home'. Inspiring words on a ground-breaking day.

Happy April Fools' Day!
